Importing videos

In order to import a video into the SimpleView CMS, it must first exist in either Vimeo or YouTube, and embedding must be enabled.

You will find information on how to upload videos to Vimeo and YouTube here.

NB!
User-generated videos can be imported from YouTube, but not from Vimeo. Vimeo videos from third parties must thus be embedded in a text box, as HTML code, if the video is to be used.

Importing videos into the SimpleView CMS

Note that the procedure for importing a video is fundamentally the same for both Vimeo and YouTube.

First of all, check thoroughly if the video already exists in the CMS. If it does, please consider using that instead, or replacing it with a new version rather than adding a new video in addition to a pre-existing old one. If it does not, follow these steps:

1: Find the URL of the video

The first thing you need to do is to find the URL of the video, either in Vimeo or YouTube. It should look similar to this:

https://vimeo.com/140757435
or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB-S_M3o0dM

2: Make panels and widgets

Go to where you want to insert the video, and create the following arrangements of panels:

PANELS: Related Content Container, inside either One-column or Two-column.
WIDGET: Collection Template – Related Content.

For instance like this:

video panel structure

Note!

The title you give the Related Content Container Panel will appear as a header above the video. If you don’t want a video title (header) you can leave this section blank:

video title

… like this:

video title 2

slides

When you add the widget mentioned above, select the standard settings, and populate the widget with slides (not feeds):

Then, click the BROWSE button:

slide browse

Unless the video you want already exists as a slide, click the CREATE SLIDE button. Note that a video is regarded as a special type of slide, so don’t panic just because it says «slide» here and not «video».

video import 2

3: Create a slide

If the slide (containing the video) already exists, you can look/search for it here. If it does not, click «create slide», which should take you here:

video import 3

Give the video a good title (required field), this title will appear below the video in the CMS like this:slide title  Select the locale (i.e. Primary, Norwegian, etc). Then click the «videos»-button under the «Image»-heading. This should take you here:

video import 4

4: Add a video, if it exists

If the video already exists in the asset library, search for it here and select it. If it does not, click the «create video» button.

5: Create new video

You should now be on a screen that looks like this:

video import 5

Here, you should fill in the various fields like this, in this order:

  1. Content Owner: Select who owns the video. This field is required.
  2. The video’s URL: Paste this into the field next to the IMPORT-button, then click the button. A number of fields should now automatically fill with information: Thumbnail, Video URL, Video Type, Video ID and Title.
  3. The remaining fields in no particular order:
    • Title: Change the title, if you wish.
    • Credits: Paste the correct credits into this field.
    • Internal notes: This is where you should paste the page’s locale tag. It will make it easier to search for the video later, and find out which page it is used on.
    • Video categories: Most of these are not in use, except for videos used in headers. If this is such a video, assign it to the category «header-video». Note that this is not a required field, and that videos do not need to have anything entered here.
    • Latitude and longitude: Add these if known and relevant to the video.
    • CMS tags: Assign the correct CMS tags here. These should be:
      • Video type: Either vimeo-video or youtube-video (not both!)
      • Geographical tag(s): Where the video was recorded, if appliccable.
      • Subject: Any subjects that are central to the videos theme.
      • Season: If one (no more!) season is obviously central to the video, include a CMS tag for that season.
      • Any other important CMS-tags, as required. More information on CMS-tags is found here

Click the «save changes» button when done.

The video you just created should appear on top of the list. Click its «select» button to select it. You will then be brought to the «create new slide» window where you must give the slide a title, if you haven’t already. Click «save changes» to continue.

The slide should appear in the top of the list that appears next. Click «select» to select it and place it in your related content widget.

6: Change preview image?

If you are not happy with the automatically selected preview image, you can add a different image manually. This can either be done when you import the video, or afterwards, in this screen:

updatevideopreviewimage

7: More videos?

When you are done with this stage, click «save changes». If you want to insert additional videos and make a slideshow of videos, repeat from step 3 above.
